The Visual Dictionary of Human Anatomy

Human ANATOMY IS THE STUDY of the structure of the body. This book describes the different parts of the body, and how they “fit together” to produce a living human being. The first section (pp. 8-25) describes the various body systems, such as the reproductive system (pp. 24- 25), which each consist of organs that work together to perform particular functions. The second section (pp. 26-59) describes the detailed internal structure of the body. Within this section, the body has been divided into areas: the head and neck (pp. 26-35); the thorax (pp. 38-41), abdomen (pp. 42-47), and pelvic region (pp. 48-51), which together form the trunk (pp. 34-37); the shoulder and upper arm (pp. 52-53); the forearm and hand (pp. 54- 55); the thigh (pp. 56-57); and the lower leg and foot (pp. 58-59). Males and females have the same body areas, but their body shapes and reproductive organs differ. The entire body is covered by skin, a waterproof layer that stops the entry of microorganisms and acts as a sense organ.
